Which Shimano freewheel is this item?
Answer: It's the Shimano tz-500. -
Question:
What is the dimension across the cassette?
Answer: I use mine as a replacement for a six-speed freewheel and it works great!! With some tinkering I think I can use the smallest cog. Go to harriscyclery.net for great information. -

What freewheel tool is needed for this?
Answer: You would need the Park Tool Shimano/Sachs Aris/Sunrace/DNP Epoch Freewheel Remover. -

Is this an index freewheel?
Answer: Not sure what you mean by index, but it is a freewheel. -

How is the cassette held together?
Answer: Unfortunately, I don't know as I haven't received my Shimano Freewheel yet. The vendor said I will receive my freewheel between February 24th & March 17th. And I placed my order on January 12th. Go figure. Based on my personal experience with past freewheels, I'm assuming it's a threaded cog.
