The Shun DM0790 Classic Knife Blade Sharpener is a quality product made in Japan. It is designed to effectively hone Shun knives and other high carbon steel knives. However, the build quality of this honing rod is underwhelming for its price. There are issues with the angled guard and handle, which jiggle and rotate with about 10 degrees of play. The wood dye does not go all the way to the guard and does not match the color and sheen of the Shun classic chef's knife. Additionally, some customers were disappointed to find that the product is made in China, despite being advertised as made in Japan. Despite these flaws, the honing steel performs well and effectively sharpens knives.
