Answer: It may work in brand new condition, however as it gets older, it may not show correct readings if tilted due to sediments, scale, suspended solids, etc. -

Does this need to be vertical?
Answer: It is better to be vertical according to my experiment. -
Question:
Can I use it to measure the amount of water going into my hand sprayer which has no gallon graduations?
Answer: It will only tell you gallons per minute, so if you multiply the reading by the number of minutes you run it for, that will give you total gallons.
