Answer: I purchased these for a Rover. I would get tape measurer and hold it on the roof of the car. You want the bar as long as possible as long as it dose not obstruct getting in & out of the car by hitting your head -

Answer: Thule works When i was trying to get the INNO stuff, I kept getting shipped some bicycle mounts rather than the gutter mounts I needed to mount to the roof. After 3 tries and them being unable to get the right parts, they dropped the INNO mounts from the website.. -

Can I cut the length and can I drill these to make my own mounts?
Answer: You can cut to length but I would not drill as they are light weight aluminum. -

will the 42 inch crossbars fit across a 1984 vw rabbit 4door?
Answer: the length of the crossbars does not matter at all....literally walk out to your car with a tape measure and measure from one side of the roof to the other and then add however many inches u want to get a rough visual on how far off of your roof the bars would extend in different length
