The NooElec RTL-SDR is a cheap radio that is perfect for novice hobbyists. However, it seems the antenna that comes with it is garbage, and several customers recommend finding a better one for improved performance. While some people were unable to set it up, others were able to get it to work without problems, and those who did found it to be easy to use and effective for picking up signals in their area. Some people were able to use it to pick up radio transmissions from planes flying over 100 miles away, and one person was able to use it to test whether a universal remote was emitting RF signals. However, one customer reported that it fried the port on their tablet after working a few times. All in all, it seems that the NooElec RTL-SDR is a good choice for those who are interested in experimenting with radio technology, as long as they are willing to spend a bit extra on a better antenna for improved results.
